ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT (AFG)
FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA)
On August 7, 2007, Hasting Air Control,
Inc. completed the installation and set up of the PlymoVent vehicle
exhaust system for the Village of Plover Fire/EMS Department.
The department submitted and was
awarded a grant for installing the vehicle exhaust system to remove
cancer causing bi-products from vehicle exhaust through the Assistance
to Firefighters Grant, FEMA.
The vehicle exhaust system has
two (2) large exhaust fans mounted on the roof of the apparatus
bay and a total of ten (10) drop exhaust hoses attached to various
firefighting apparatus. Upon starting each engine, the vehicle exhaust
system sensor kicks in and begins removing all exhaust. As the vehicles
begin exiting each apparatus bay, the attached hose lines release
and fold away from striking the exiting apparatus. The system then
continues to operate for a total of three (3) minutes to ensure
all vehicle exhaust is removed from the entire system. Upon returning
to the station, a member re-attaches each hose at the entrance to
the garage door as each vehicle begins backing in and/or driving
in. The vehicle then proceeds to continue backing in and/or driving
in continually removing exhaust until the apparatus is parked and
shut off. The system then continues to operate for the three minute
time cycle ensuring all exhaust is removed.
Total cost of the system was $95,536.00.
This grant was a matching grant, with FEMA picking up 95% (i.e.
93,612.00) of the cost and the Village of Plover the remaining 5%
(i.e. $4,926.00).
This system will not only be a
great improvement for the department, but for the entire Village
Hall facility.
