Metro Fire District

A Plover/Whiting automatic-aid agreement was developed and implemented in 2005 as the single engine company response to structure fires in both Villages. On September 1, 2008 the agreement expanded into the Portage County Metropolitan Fire District (i.e. Metro) automatic-aid agreement. The Metro Fire District automatic-aid agreement provides for the uniform response by both municipalities fire departments to all types of incidents across jurisdiction boundaries. On February 9th, 2011, the agreement was expanded for a second time to include the City of Stevens Point Fire Department. Each agencies incident response is managed through an apparatus response matrix. The concept of a three engine company and one truck company response for all structure fires is maintained in accordance with NFPA 1710/1720 staffing standards. The stricken community is responsible for responding with two apparatus, while the other Metro partners respond with one apparatus each. Joint training exercises are conducted on an annual basis a minimum of six times per year to ensure efficient and effective operations. The expansion to the Metro Fire District is a means to improve firefighter safety on the fire ground and provide more effective operations to our customers.
