Snowmobile Regulations

The Village of Plover has adopted state snowmobile laws into ordinance to ensure public welfare and preservation of property, and still allow snowmobiles access to county snowmobile trails. Village streets are open for travel to and from village residences or lodging establishments and to/from county snowmobile trails, but only when the trails are pronounced open for public use by the Portage County Parks Department.

Snowmobiles may be used on private property only with the written consent of the owner, and such consent must be in the possession of the operator. Operation in any village park is strictly limited to roadways in those parks.

Snowmobiles must be operated on the extreme right hand side of the roadway or shoulder traveling with traffic. They must have headlights on at all times and operated in single file. Operators shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicle traffic and pedestrians. Roadway speed limits must be observed unless within 150 ft of pedestrians, where the speed limit shall be 10 mph.

All traffic signs must be obeyed and registration must be displayed. Operation of a snowmobile while under the influence of an alcohol beverage or controlled substance is prohibited.

SNOWMOBILE ORDINANCE

The Village Board of the Village of Plover DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

1.       That Section 7.10 SNOWMOBILES AND OTHER OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES AND SNOWMOBILE ACCESS be repealed and recreated in part as follows:

3.  This amendment to Chapter 7, Traffic Code, shall take effect upon passage and publication.
